Wait & Return: the ride home, guaranteed

The lesson

Price the thing people are actually afraid of, and put it in writing.

For an older rider, getting to a hospital appointment is the easy half. The hard half is afterwards: the appointment runs late, the phone battery is low, and the ride home is a fresh request that nobody has promised to take.

The options we saw (our 2026 market scan)

  • A taxi that waits charges for the waiting, which can make a hospital trip there and back cost around $225 to $245.
  • An app ride is two separate trips. The ride home is, as we put it in our notes, a second lottery.

What we built (23 August 2026)

Wait & Return is one booking with two legs: there, and home again. No second booking, no hoping a driver’s nearby, no watching the clock in the waiting room.

  • The wait is included in the price, up to a set time.
  • If the appointment runs over, any extra waiting is charged per 15 minutes, at a rate stated in the written quote before the trip. That is the only way the price can go up, and the quote says so.
  • The rider tells us they’re ready with a text (“I’m done”) or a call. The system records that time; nobody types in a time afterwards.
  • The pickup guarantee: if we are late for the pickup home, the extra waiting charge is waived. The guarantee is a written warranty under consumer law, with its own public page.

Our prices are on dycomdrive.com.au; we link to them rather than repeat them here.

What I’d tell you

Make the promise specific enough to check. Ours says what happens if we’re late for the pickup home: the extra waiting charge is waived.
